Mocha Moms Inc. South Bay Chapter

Hello everyone, this Sheréa VéJauan again ( publicist for South Bay Chapter, California) I am still receiving emails from chapters on what they are doing.

This is a great opportunity to show a positive image in our communities, a positive image for our people, and a positive image of African American Women, who have not only chosen to stay home with our children, but put ourselves in a position to help other families in need.

I am very excited to see what other chapters are doing!

We at South Bay have put together a resource web page you can view that page at

https://southbaymocha.tripod.com/id16.html

also about entitled

"Hurricane Katrina" What Mocha's Are Doing Around The Globe?

on a personal level I have set up a YAHOO GROUP for the public, SO YOU MAY POST FUNDARAISING EVENTS, UPLOAD data, photos, web links, etc.

They are asking for the B-DADS to assist them in off loading the donation and organizing the boxing of the donation to be distributed. Below is detailed information on their effort and needs. Please join me tomorrow morning and help support them in this effort to help those who have lost all. If you have received multiple copies of this I’m apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. Emergency Fundraiser at the Bounce Roll Movie Screening By now you should have received your invitation to the free screening of the film Bounce Roll. If you are planning to attend, RSVP now! The e-vite will be open to all of the Mocha Mom Chapters in the Metro Area on Monday. As the host chapter, we get first "dibs." What I'd like to propose is that we turn this into a fundraiser for the families that are taking displaced families in from New Orleans. Opening your home is one thing, but feeding 5-10 more people is a different story. So what I'm asking is that for everyone who RSVPs for the movie donate the cost of 1 ticket ($10) to the Louisiana Network. As I've mentioned before, Mocha Mom Ayanna is a member of the network and is working tirelessly to assist the displaced families coming to the area daily! When you RSVP, be sure to include the number of people you plan to invite along with you.

Healing Ceremony at Akua's was Powerful! The ceremony today at Mocha Mom Akua's house was powerful. We had an opportunity to vent our collective anger and learn about the spiritual implications of this tragedy. We were lead in a guided meditation and we chanted and prayed together for all the people who lost their lives and those still struggling. Akua's husband Kwame led us in a ceremony that involved the releasing of 3 white doves that we sent with positive messages and vibrations to our brothers and sisters back in the gulf states. Immediately following the ceremony, Mocha Mom Ayanna received a call that her family (that she hadn't heard from all week) was safe in Mobile, Alabama. Ain't God good!

Donation Drop-off at Ayanna's Made Fox News! I trust the drop-off at Mocha Mom Ayanna's house organized by the the Louisiana Network was a big success. Fox News reported on the event. The donations will go directly into the hands of victims arriving as we speak in the DC Metro area. Ayanna may need help organizing and sorting donations. Please contact her directly to see what you can do at ayanna940@cs.com. Here's what Ayanna had to say:

"There are hundreds of families fleeing to the Washington DC metropolitan area in the coming weeks some via government transport, others making their way up via hitchicking, family aide, etc.. Today, a family of 11 have arrived and they have 2 girls in their care both age 1 years old. If you have girls clothing size 24 months - 3T this donation can be utilized immediately. Children's clothing in general is an immediate need. Gently used, all sizes and seasons WELCOMED!! Remember: Lousiania's will be here this winter and probably into the Spring as well."

The schedule below has been set up for you to drop off of whatever items you can donate. Keep in mind that CLEAN clothes, shoes, towels, bed linen, toiletries, food and water are needed IMMEDIATELY for people who have family en route to our area NOW!

Supporting Mocha Moms Families Displaced by Katrina Our Chapter will also be making donations to Mocha Families directly affected by Katrina. We are working with the San Fernando Valley California, Metro Atlanta, and Houston Chapters. We have been provided with a list of names and all the needs of the families. I will be providing each member of the chapter with the list so that you can make individual donations in whatever way you can. List of families attached.

  Chicago Central

FYI. Chicago Central is doing several things regarding Katrina: 1. We have 4 Mocha families directly effected and gathering their info to send to Ann for the Mochas helping Mochas initiative. 2. We have contacts of agencies and shelters that we researched which are in the trenches and helping victims directly in LA, MS, andTX and we are encoraging our members to direct their funds to these agencies. 3. We have an emergency supply drop-off at the Hyde Park Self Storage. Supplies will be trucked to MS next week. 4. The South and Central Chapters will pledge a portion of chapter budgets to help our effected Mocha families. Just doing what we can. Yoluanda Brown, Chicago Central Chapter

Salvation Army Serving Storm
The Salvation Army is currently providing services to storm victims and first responders in the Gulf Coast states.

A $100 donation to The Salvation Army will feed a family of four for two days, provide two cases of drinking water and one household clean-up kit, containing brooms, mops, buckets, and cleaning supplies

World Vision has already begun responding – sending shipments of emergency supplies, donated by generous corporations and distributed in partnership with local churches and Christian agencies to children and families in need. Because the supplies have been donated, your gift will multiply in value to ship and distribute urgently needed items to those who need them the most.

World Vision's American Families Assistance Fund works in partnership with local churches and Christian agencies to provide lasting hope for American children and families in difficult situations, including those affected by disasters like Hurricane Katrina.

Other resources & emails
Please alert any students who have been displaced from our
sister HBCU's in New Orleans that they will be considered for Berkeley
matriculation effective immediately. Today's date is 9/2/05 .

I just got off the phone with a UC Berkeley executive and they are
opening their doors to a limited number of students. They are
obviously in close contact with Tulane and have heard from an
incredible number of Tulane students already. They same is not true
for our HBCU students. Some of these students may be California
residents who would consider Berkeley . Berkeley will work with
students to have concurrent enrollment or visitor status for one
semester or full matriculation status.

Ideally, the doors of Xavier, Dillard and SUNO will fly open very
soon. But until that time, Berekeley's doors are open.

We are looking into classes that students can take as the semester has
been in session for a full week. As a UC Berkeley faculty member, I am
making my classes available to the selected students and will do
everything in my personal power to support them.

Decisions are being made immediately. The date of this email is
9/2/05 . If this email is forwarded to you before 9/12/05 still
consider it current. After that date, I expect that they will have
already admitted the students that they have made provisions for.
